Christmas Eve Lovefeast

and Candle Service

5:00

The joy of the Konnoak Hills Congregation is increased each year by the many visitors who share our Christmas Eve Lovefeast and Candle Service.

In 1947 at Marienborn, Germany, a good idea grabbed a Moravian pastor on Christmas Eve:  Give each child a lighted candle trimmed in red, a brilliant flame burning like the joy kindled in our hearts by  the Savior.  In an age of somber spirituality, that joy quickly became a hallmark of the early Moravians. They spread the Gospel on five continents facing sickness, persecution, and death. Though their trials were many, their joy was complete.

The same joy of knowing Jesus Christ continues to accent the life of the Moravian Church today, especially on Christmas Eve.  Our simple meal of the Lovefeast is a revival of a custom the earliest followers of Jesus shared as they gathered to break bread with glad and generous hearts.  Since 1727, Moravians have practiced this custom as an expression of our fellowship together in Christ.

Please consider this an invitation to join us on Christmas Eve, amplifying our worship of the One revealed in the birth of a Savior at Christmas.

The Advent Wreath on Our Luther Street Lawn

We are very grateful for Chase Key and his inspiring sculpture bringing life to our Luther Street Lawn during the Seasons of Advent and Christmas.

Chase’s work titled, Anticipation, is dedicated to the memory of the late Gilbert and Helen Davis, Chase’s maternal grandparents and to Konnoak Hills Moravian Church.   It is also dedicated to the memory of Chase’s paternal grandmother, Macie B. Key, who lived one block away on the corner of Anderson Drive and Rhyne Avenue, and to the Konnoak Hills Neighborhood.

For well over a decade, the wreath has spilled our Advent anticipation onto the church lawn, drawing many visitors from far and near to our neighborhood.  Come take a look.
