John Rights, Pastor

John D. Rights has served as our pastor since January of 1999.  He is a son of Clemmons Moravian Church and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Moravian Theological Seminary, and Salem College.  John’s earlier pastorates were with the Calvary and Bethania Congregations in the Southern Province.  Prior to Konnoak Hills, he served as a fourth and fifth-grade classroom teacher at the Downtown School in Winston-Salem.

Regarding his call to ordained ministry,  Brother Rights shares these words:

Following high school, I attended a university with a strong Religious Studies department to which I credit much of my spiritual formation as a young adult.  While there, I found a course on Jesus and the Gospels fascinating.  Building on the foundation of my church upbringing, faith became a simple yet intense desire to live in Jesus' compassionate, reconciling, tolerant, prophetic, and non-violent way.  Over time, I was drawn to ordained service in the Moravian Church, believing this to be a calling from Christ.

John shares the covenant of marriage and the blessing of family with Mary White Rights, who is retired from a rewarding career as a classroom teacher at the Downtown School.
